offset printing

Offset printing technology uses plates, usually made from aluminum, which are used to transfer an image onto a rubber “blanket”, and then rolling that image onto a sheet (“Sheetfed”) or roll (“Web”) of paper. It’s called offset because the ink is not transferred directly onto the paper. Offset Web presses feed a large reel of paper through the printing press printing units which then print continuously as the paper is fed through. Offset Sheetfed presses feed individual sheets of paper through the print units via a suction bar that lifts and drops each sheet into place.

Advantages of offset printing

Because offset presses run so efficiently once they are set up, offset printing is often considered the best choice when large quantities are being produced. In addition, offset printing can provide very accurate color reproduction, and crisp, clean professional looking printing.

Other advantages of Offset are that the offset printing process allows a much wider variety of custom papers and specialty inks, such as metallic or fluorescent inks, to be used in the printing process. When the printing project demands a specific, brand-centric Pantone color, offset printing is the only way to go.

UV Offset printing offers many advantages over conventional offset printing. These advantages include the following:

  • UV curing eliminates tracking of ink.

  • With UV curing, the product can be converted in line. Fold, bind and ship product same day.

  • The press operator can increase speed of press. Instant drying allows press speed to be doubled.

  • UV inks can be formulated to be heat resistant. The printer can run products and forms for thermal printers.

  • A wide variety of specialty UV coatings can easily be applied in-line during print production including UV Protective coating. All of these UV coatings cure instantly.

  • UV chemistry has no VOC’s. UV’s unique no solvent, no water formulation meet strictest Clean Air Act standards.

  • Most importantly, the printer can broaden their product line to include:

    • Direct Mail Printing on both coated or uncoated papers

    • Multi-Color Process Printing

    • Catalogs

    • Contest Coupons and Stamps

    • Calendars

    • Coated Labels

    • Flexible Packaging

    • Lottery Tickets and Admission Tickets

    • Cut Sheets for Laser Printing
